Tidal Cave is action platformer game developed solo with the Phaser framework for Global Gam 2016. The player must navigate the cave and defeat monsters to become strong enough to defeat a giant fish. The water level is rising and falling throughout, so the player must take care to avoid the fish's attacks while he is still too weak to take it on.
The idea was to make a game that takes the often boring task of grinding to level up and makes it more compelling by adding an element of danger that comes and goes. The threat of an ever-present boss monster forces the player to plan his route through the level, and balance the reward for efficiently defeating monsters with the risk of a powerful enemy that becomes aggressive when the player gets too close.
