Microsoft Jewel

Microsoft Jewel is a match-3 game that combines traditional, simple matching and power-up mechanics with additional meta-systems. By completing-side missions, additional jewels can be earned and freely placed in the grid, which is very useful for completing the game's end-level challenge mode.

The game was developed by Arkadium in collaboration with the Microsoft Casual Games team, and is a spin-off of Jewel Shuffle. The game uses Arkadium's in house Pixi.js-based engine. I was responsible for programming the game, and was the main point of contact for Microsoft on technical aspects of the game, as well as time estimation for features. The fluid, simultaneous movement of the jewels from the original game tended to produce bugs, so a generational ID system was introduced to better handle ownership and deletion of jewels.
